Collaborations

My collaborations with artists from other countries have been fortuitous. Growing up in the 60’s I stood in school hallways with sirens blaring protecting the back of our necks from the possibility of flying glass once the bomb hit- Cuba- Russia- China- Vietnam –they were all evil countries. How lucky can I be to go to Cuba and Viet Nam? And what do you know- they are just like us. They have pride in their country, they work hard, laugh, eat, show off their children, worry about health care, the politics of the world, cost of living, the next job and how to craft a meaningful body of art.

I have been going to Cuba since 2001 with my family. Our longest stay in 2003 was for ten months and our shortest visit- three weeks.

I have a deep respect, and admiration for the artists and people I collaborate with. My goal with collaborative book projects I’ve made is to share a perspective on life I am not familiar with but through luck have had a chance to participate in. These book projects serve first to educate me in a culture and life far outside my norm.
